Proteinaholic

ProteinaholicProteinaholic was genuinely a fantastic read for anyone who is interested in taking a deeper look at why eating animal products can have harmful effects on the human body.

This comprehensive look into the world of nutrition, and specifically how we have come to our current revery for protein, is an eye-opener to those who believe that we need animal products and lots of protein to be healthy.  Dr. Davis draws from his own practice in preventative medicine and the leading nutritional studies to help give people an idea of the pitfalls that come along with excess protein and animal products intake.

There is a lot of confusing nutritional information out there and knowing where to turn can be a headache to say the least.  Unfortunately even looking into studies can be misleading if you are not also looking into who funded the studies and what their motivations are.  Dr. Garth Davis does a great job guiding the reader through various studies and explaining what measuring tools he uses to know if they are worth taking seriously.

This book is a great read for anyone who is stepping into the world of nutrition and doesn’t quite understand which way to turn.  It may be hard to swallow at first, as it goes against the current paradigm of ‘general’ nutrition knowledge.  Challenge yourself to read it and be open to what you are learning… even if it is the complete opposite of everything you have heard about nutrition.

We at Consciously are adamant about healthy nutrition and know from our own experience, research, and time with clients that nutrient dense, plant-based nutrition is one of the keys to true holistic health.
